BIOGRAPHY
Kim Calvert is a dedicated public servant with 18 years experience in municipal government operations, budget management, and community relations. She was appointed City Clerk in August 2007 and she is still serving in her capacity as City Clerk/Human Resource Manager.
Kim Calvert was born and raised in the City of Okolona. She is a 1996 graduate of Okolona High School. She attended Northeast Community College after graduation. Later she attended Itawamba Community College where she received her associate’s degree in Business Administration. She obtained her Bachelor of Business Degree with a minor is accounting from the University of Mississippi in December 2010.
During Kim’s tenure as City Clerk she has obtained different licensing. Kim received her Mississippi Municipal Clerks and Tax Collectors Certification and Mississippi Water Certification. In addition to that, she received her Mississippi Real Estate License. Kim is a Notary Public and keeps the official seal of the City of Okolona.
Under Kim’s leadership, the city has enacted open data policies, directly contributing to increased transparency in each of the City’s departments. Under her leadership the department made changes such as collecting the city and school taxes and collecting their water-sewer, and sanitation bills. Behind Kim’s efforts is her commitment to making government more accountable to the people and businesses she serves as Okolona City Clerk.
Responsibilities of the Office of the City Clerk
Elections Official: Administers and Conducts Municipal Elections • Clerk of Council: Serves as Clerk to City Council
Department Head: Serves as the Department Head for the Office of the City Clerk, managing staff and day to day operations
Human Resource Manager: Serves as Human Resource Manager for the City, keeping personnel files, payroll duties, report monthly and quarterly to different agencies, and new hire on boarding duties
Legislative Records Administration: Prepares and maintains the official legislative record and dissemination of approved legislative actions by the City Council
Records Management: Manages the official records, such as ordinances, resolutions, contracts, bonds, and sealed bids
Legal Notice Admin/Compliance: Oversees public hearing notices, compliance with the posting and publication of public notices, as required by law
Public Records Compliance Officer: Receives and processes public records requests
Budget Administrator: Prepares and submits the City’s departmental budget for Council approval
